Two More Years

July 9th, 2006 · No Comments

Classes start tomorrow and won’t end for another two years. I like MBA programs for that reason, they aren’t long and drawn out. However, classes will be at least four hours a day, at least five days a week. Toss in an occassional career management session or a resume review and this can strech on for a while. Add the ten hours a week I agreed to do work study and it can get worse.

I did do some calculations on the fee reduction and work grants with the hours worked. It comes out to be about $13.60 an hour in benefits, which in South Carolina probably puts me in the top quanitle in earnings, especially non-union.

The past few days have been meeting the hundred or so people in the class, trying to remember faces and names and doing what things we can do. First two nights were spent at bars, now hangovers and empty wallets led us to the movies last night. One of the personality traits MBA students have and will have to develop some more for the business world is we’re Social. Makes it very easy to meet people, and the fact we’re all kindred spirits means we share the same mindset.

Also spent time going over the results of a personality test. The oddest thing about mine was that I actually have a personality, and a semi-balanced one to boot. The majority of us, myself included, appear to have a similar stress behavior-we withdraw, go to ground, turtle up. This may cause a problem in that someone else may have to be The Great Communicator if we have a problem in a group setting.
